The need it meets
Purpose
Exam Ready gives students the tools and routines to perform under pressure. It connects revision quality, question technique and exam-day strategy into one practical system.
What students experience
In the room
Students practise reading command words, structuring strong answers, time-boxing longer responses and checking against mark schemes. They build practical routines for before, during and after each exam paper.
Learning intentions
What we aim for
- Improve exam confidence through repeatable performance routines.
- Strengthen answer quality using command-word and mark-scheme insight — developing the kind of disciplined, evidence-based thinking Estyn identifies as central to high-quality Teaching & Learning.
- Develop time-management strategies for different question types.
- Reduce avoidable exam errors with structured checking habits.
Concrete gains
Lasting takeaways
- Students know what examiners are looking for and how to deliver it.
- Higher-quality responses under timed conditions.
- Improved composure and decision-making under pressure — the performance difference that metacognitive awareness and deliberate practice actually produce.

Assurance for leaders
Curriculum & inspection fit
Estyn 2024 Framework
Directly supports Teaching & Learning — improving how students apply knowledge, structure responses and manage performance under pressure. Also supports Wellbeing, Care, Support & Guidance by replacing exam anxiety with concrete, repeatable strategy.
Digital Competence Framework
Students engage with digital mark schemes, model answers and revision tools — building the critical evaluation and independent learning behaviours the DCF requires across all subjects and year groups.
Curriculum for Wales — Four Purposes & New GCSEs
Develops Ambitious, Capable Learners who can communicate knowledge clearly and perform accurately in formal settings. Directly aligned to the new Made-for-Wales GCSEs introduced September 2025 — which reward structured thinking, command-word precision and independent application across all subjects.
Health and Well-being AoLE
Exam pressure is one of the most significant wellbeing challenges in secondary education. Exam Ready doesn't reduce expectations — it builds the composure, strategy and self-regulation that allow students to meet them. This sits within the statutory Health and Well-being Area of Learning and Experience and directly supports the whole-school wellbeing framework.
